What accessibility standards do we follow?
We follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA as our target standard. These guidelines were developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and are internationally recognised for digital accessibility.
Hauptreport Media Ltd., the private company registered in Gibraltar behind this Swedish news publisher, has tasked the editorial team with implementing these guidelines across all pages. Our technical team reviews the site against WCAG success criteria on a rolling basis, prioritising the most impactful improvements.
Who is responsible for accessibility at Hauptreport?
Overall responsibility for accessibility rests with Michael Schulte, our Chefredaktör, who oversees editorial standards and publication decisions. Our Ansvarig för faktagranskning, Melanie Winter, coordinates fact‑checking and source verification, and also reviews accessibility‑related complaints forwarded from our dedicated accessibility email.
Day‑to‑day technical work is managed by the product and development team, who report to the editor‑in‑chief. We have not appointed a single accessibility officer, but all staff involved in web production receive guidance on WCAG requirements and testing tools.
How do we ensure keyboard navigation and focus visibility?
All interactive elements on hauptreport.de are operable using a keyboard alone. We test tab order, focus indicators, and custom controls to ensure no user is locked into a mouse‑only interaction.
Our focus styles are designed to be highly visible – a thick outline with sufficient contrast against the background. We avoid removing the default browser outline unless we replace it with a custom one that meets the same or better visibility. If you encounter a page where focus becomes lost or invisible, please report it to accessibility@hauptreport.de.
What about contrast and reduced motion?
Text and text‑like images have a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 for normal‑sized text and 3:1 for large text, in line with WCAG 2.2 AA. Non‑text content, such as icons and chart elements, also meet the required contrast against adjacent colours.
We respect the user’s system‑level reduced‑motion setting. Where animations or scroll‑triggered effects are used, they pause or stop when the prefers-reduced-motion media query is active. We do not use auto‑playing video or large‑scale movement that could trigger vestibular disorders. If you find a moving element that does not respect your reduced‑motion preferences, contact our accessibility team.
What are the known limitations of our current site?
Despite our efforts, some parts of hauptreport.de may not yet be fully accessible. We currently have the following known issues:
- Some older articles contain images without alternative text, especially those published in the first months of operation in 2024. We are in the process of adding descriptive alt text to all legacy content.
- Certain PDF documents embedded in articles are not fully tagged for screen readers. Where possible, we provide a summary or an alternative HTML version.
- Our interactive charts and data visualisations rely on third‑party libraries that may have limited keyboard support. We are evaluating more accessible charting tools.
We are actively working to resolve these limitations. Progress updates will be published in future revisions of this accessibility statement.
What you can expect from us
You can expect that we treat accessibility as an ongoing process, not a one‑time fix. Each new feature or design change is reviewed against WCAG 2.2 AA criteria before launch. We conduct periodic audits using automated tools and manual testing by trained staff.
We also commit to responding to accessibility reports within five business days. Every report is logged, investigated, and either fixed or added to our backlog with a priority rating. Our editorial and technical teams share a common goal: to make Swedish news and analysis equally accessible to readers in Sweden and internationally.
