Who is responsible for what we publish?
Every article on Hauptreport is published under the direct responsibility of Chefredaktör Michael Schulte, who sets editorial standards and approves all content. Each piece carries a named writer, is reviewed by an editor, and is checked by the fact‑checking team before publication. The full editorial team is listed on our team page.
Michael Schulte (anders.lindqvist@hauptreport.de) oversees publication decisions, corrections and adherence to this policy. Jessica Wolff, Redaktionschef, manages the daily newsroom and headline review. Tim Wolf covers national politics, Sarah Huber writes on economics, Sebastian Frank handles culture and society, and Melanie Winter leads fact‑checking. Every editorial role is accountable, and readers can contact any team member directly.
How do we distinguish between news, opinion, features, sponsored and affiliate content?
We label content clearly so that readers always know what they are reading. News articles report facts without commentary. Opinion pieces are marked “Kommentar” or “Meinung” and represent the author’s personal view. Features are longer, narrative pieces with analysis. Sponsored content is always labelled “Sponsored” or “Anzeige”, and affiliate links are disclosed in the article text or in a footer note.
Our sponsored content policy and advertising and affiliate disclosure explain the rules in detail. Commercial material never influences editorial decisions, and no payment can change a news judgment. If an article contains affiliate links, a standard sentence informs readers that Hauptreport may earn a commission if they purchase through that link.
What does our editorial process look like?
Every article begins with a pitch or assignment, is drafted by a named journalist, then sent to an editor for review. After structural and factual checks, the piece goes to Melanie Winter’s fact‑checking team for source verification and correction of any errors. Only after the editor approves the final version and the Chefredaktör signs off is it published.
This process applies to all content – news, features, interviews and analysis. For opinion pieces, the writer’s identity and perspective are clearly stated. Sponsored content follows the same review chain, but the editorial team ensures it is unmistakably labelled. The system guarantees that no article goes live without human oversight, regardless of whether AI tools were used in research or drafting.
How do we ensure independence from commercial influence?
Hauptreport Media Ltd., a private company registered in Gibraltar, owns Hauptreport. Our funding comes from display advertising, affiliate links, commercial partnerships, sponsored content, newsletter sponsorships and content licensing. No advertiser or partner has any say in editorial decisions, and commercial relationships never determine what we cover or how we cover it.
Our ownership and funding page provides full transparency about who owns us and how we are financed. The advertising and affiliate disclosure details exactly how we label and separate paid content from editorial. Readers can trust that our news judgments are made independently, in the interest of the public, not of any commercial partner.
What you can expect from us
You can expect accurate, context‑rich journalism that explains Swedish news, politics, economy, culture and society without spin or oversimplification. We name our sources wherever possible, correct mistakes promptly, and publish a clear correction notice with a link to the updated article. Every piece is fact‑checked, and our editorial team is reachable for questions.
We are committed to transparency: article‑level disclosures include the writer’s name, the editor’s approval, and any use of AI‑assisted tools. If an article is sponsored or contains affiliate links, that is stated prominently. We do not use hidden commercial relationships, and we never fabricate quotes, sources or interviews. Our goal is to make complex topics understandable for readers in Sweden and internationally.
How do we use AI in our journalism?
AI‑assisted tools may support research, drafting, editing, formatting, translation, metadata generation, headline options, summaries and transcription. But no published content is generated solely by AI. Every piece is reviewed, edited and approved by a human editor before it appears on Hauptreport. AI must never be used to invent quotes, sources, interviews, bylines or expert profiles.
We have a dedicated AI and automation policy that explains exactly which tools are used, how they are supervised, and what safeguards are in place. Readers can always assume that a human journalist is ultimately responsible for every article, even when technology supports the process.
How do we handle corrections and complaints?
If we make a mistake, we correct it promptly and transparently. A correction notice is appended to the article, and the change is explained. Readers can submit a correction request or a formal complaint via our complaints procedure. The editorial team reviews every complaint, and the Chefredaktör makes the final decision on whether to publish a correction or a clarification.
Our corrections policy sets out the timeline, the process for verifying errors, and how we communicate changes. We take factual accuracy seriously and encourage readers to hold us accountable. Complaints about ethical breaches, privacy violations or misrepresentation are handled through the same channel, with a response target of five working days.
